Spring 2004 Results Summary

A record number of participants, 40, took part in the 29th running of the race. An almost even split of 10K (21) and 5K (19) runners finished the race on a sunny and cool day with a moderate north westerly wind. Bob Dawson became the 2nd 3-time winner of the trophy with a run time that was 1 second off his predicted time.

Fastest time of the day in the 10K race went to Jim Wendland, who despite racing 5 days earlier in a duathlon, was able to turn in a time of 38:48. Jim was on pace for a much faster time before pulling up at 7 K with a sore hamstring. But as we've said many times before, Jim is better on one hamstring than the rest of us on two. Close behind Jim were Phil Dempsey at 38:51 and Alan Rooks at 38:55.

In the 5 K, Pauline Hepburn made here first appearance at this distance and captured the fastest time at 25:28. Pauline was followed by Darren Denomme (26:29) and Carolyn Smith (26:44).

The race also featured its youngest ever competitor as 12-year old Alex Dawson skipped grade 6 to participate. Alex narrowly nipped his mother, Kathy, at the finish line by 4 seconds in a time of 28:51, one minute and 9 seconds ahead of his predicted time.
