Spring 2018 Results Summary

Friday June 22, 2018

The weather forecast in the days leading up to our 57th Rundown had some of us worried. However, on the first day of summer, race time arrived and brought some amazing running weather. After 57 races, this was the first time our spring race has not been run in the spring!

It wasn't only the racers who were enjoying the beautiful scenery along the trail. While performing course preparation actitivies, our course marhsall Mike Williams was fortunate enough to spot a deer on the side of the course and even managed to snag a picture on his phone. I think it was good that Mike saw the deer and not anyone else (**cough Peter Aultman**) or we may have a repeat of the deer incident of 2014! Our 10K winner has now won the race for an impressive seventh time and in back to back races! Dan Burton ran a time of 46:06, only 24 seconds faster than his prediction. Two runners, Jarred Parent and Ryan Groen, started the race together and battled the entire race finishing 2 seconds apart. Unfortunately for them, this pushed their pace too fast and they were well ahead of their predicted time.

Our 5k winner is establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with at this distance. In Spring 2017, she finished 18 seconds off her time which got her fourth place. In Fall 2017, she won the race for the first time finishing 12 seconds off her prediction. Today she has won her second race and joins the multiple race winner club, giving us back to back winners in both distances in the same race!! Nancy Brookbank was an impressive 2.8 seconds slower than her predicted time of 30:20!

The Shoe of Shame went to Scott Near, however being only 2 minutes faster than his time, it is one of the softer times to earn this award.

Finally, the Beat the Handicapper contest. This award goes to the person who knows people better than they know themselves. The person who can look past the predictions and into each person's soul to divine what pace they will run when all pretense is stripped away. This award was won by Ryan Groen.

See you all in the fall!
